Item type:Документ, Morphometric thresholds of the ostiomeatal complex and their psychological correlates in sinus ventilation impairment(2025) Yurevych, N.; Kysylenko, K.; Sukhina, I.; Falova, O.; Khartsiy, O.; Rozhkova, O.; Lupyr, M.; Alekseeva, V.The ostiomeatal complex (OMC) is a critical anatomical region ensuring ventilation and drainage of the anterior paranasal sinuses. Variability in its morphology can lead to functional impairment and predispose individuals to chronic rhinosinusitis. Objective: To determine quantitative morphometric thresholds associated with inadequate sinus ventilation based on OMC structure and semilunar hiatus dimensions using CT data and computational modeling. Methods: Morphometric analysis was performed on 400 spiral CT scans. OMC parameters were measured manually and automatically, and 3D models were constructed. Pressure and flow simulations were conducted using the IMED system. Subjects were divided into three groups based on the width of the semilunar hiatus: narrow, moderate, and wide. Parameters such as sinus wall thickness, OMC component density, and estimated ventilation pressure were analyzed. Results: Both excessively narrow (<1.8 mm) and overly wide (>3.5 mm) semilunar hiatuses were associated with impaired ventilation. Optimal airflow occurred in the intermediate range (2.1–3.2 mm). A pressure gradient of <2.5 Pa between the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity was associated with stasis in 73% of cases. Strong correlations were observed between sinus ventilation efficiency and the thickness of the uncinate process (r = –0.75, p < 0.01), as well as medial maxillary sinus wall thickness (r = –0.72, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Functional ventilation of the maxillary sinus requires a semilunar hiatus width between 2.1 and 3.2 mm and a pressure differential above 2.5 Pa. Both morphological extremes are associated with physiological dysfunction, highlighting the importance of patient-specific anatomical assessment in surgical planningItem type:Документ, Аnatomical variability of the ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses(2025) Yurevych, N.; Pokotylo, Р.; Podoliuk, M.; Seleznova, R.; Voinytska, O.; Vdovichenko, V.; Sukhonosov, R.; Alekseeva, V.The ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses exhibit marked anatomical variability that can impact surgical approaches and predispose individuals to complications during sinus and skull base procedures. Objective: To characterize the morphometric patterns and anatomical variants of the ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses based on high-resolution CT data and to analyze their surgical and clinical significance. Methods: A total of 400 CT scans were analyzed. Sinuses were classified by pneumatization type, dimensions, and presence of anatomical variants. 3D reconstructions were performed to assess spatial orientation and proximity to neurovascular structures. Results: Ethmoid sinus complexity was classified into three distinct types, with higher complexity correlating with narrower surgical corridors and increased risk of incomplete ethmoidectomy. Sphenoid pneumatization showed significant variability, including presellar, sellar, and postsellar types. Onodi cells were identified in 13% of cases, closely related to the optic canal. Septated sphenoids were present in 21%, often traversing the internal carotid artery canal. Conclusion: Detailed anatomical understanding of posterior sinus morphology and variation is essential for safe and effective sinus and skull base surgery. This study provides a morphometric atlas to support individualized surgical planningItem type:Документ, Morphometric characteristics of the vastus lateralis muscle of the quadriceps group of the thigh according to ultrasound research(Сумський державний університет (Sumy State University), 2026) Karatieieva, Svitlana; Honchar, Halyna; Karasievych, Serhii; Ilchenko, Sergiy; Maievskyi, MykolaObjective: To determine the volume of the vastus lateralis muscle (part of the quadriceps femoris) in relation to sports orientation and selection for professional football. Materials and Methods: A total of 48 young men were studied, including 16 players from the Ukrainian professional football team "Universytet" (Chernivtsi), 16 first and second-year students of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Rehabilitation at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, and 16 first- and second-year medical students of Bukovinian State Medical University. All participants underwent morphometric assessment using ultrasound imaging of the vastus lateralis muscle of the quadriceps femoris. Measurements included length, width, and depth. Results: In the upper third of the muscle, the volume in professional football players was 14.3% greater than in students attending football training and 39.3% greater than in control group students. In the middle third, the muscle volume in professional football players was 17.0% greater than in students attending football training and 36.1% greater than in control group students. In the lower third, the volume of the vastus lateralis in professional football players was 19.2% greater than in students attending football training and 44.5% greater than in control group students. Conclusion: Ultrasound examination of the vastus lateralis muscle to determine its volume in the upper, middle, and lower thirds has practical significance for identifying sports orientation and selecting candidates for professional football.
