Study of individual changes in the spinal cord epicone

The study investigates individual variability of the spinal cord epicone, focusing on its topography, boundaries, and age-related changes. Based on the analysis of 20 spinal cord specimens (fetuses – 5, newborns – 5, adults – 10), it was found that the length of the epicone increases with age, while its relative size compared to the spinal cord decreases. Significant variability was observed in the localization of epicondylar neurosegments, depending on age and the level of spinal cord termination. The findings highlight the practical importance of understanding epicondylar structure and skeletotopy for spinal cord surgery across different age groups.
